Trekkie Shawl

IMG_7771

Well, this is my first release under the new name – The Public Knitter

If you are an experienced or intermediate knitter, this is an easy pattern with some intriguing shaping and details. If you are a beginner you may need a bit of help, but overall this pattern the pattern is written with you in mind as well.

Working from just a few stitches Trekkie grows to become an elegant and interesting shawl. The striping adds some detail and helps to keep the knitting interesting over the longer stretch. Short rows are used to add a different kind of shape to the shawl as a whole, something that will be unique to your collection.

Trekkie is an slightly asymmetrical shawl that is cast on with just three stitches. It is worked flat, back and forth, in garter stitch, making it a good shawl pattern for beginning knitters. These instructions should be easy to follow and only include basic knitting skills. There is also no need to worry about weaving in multiple ends, both colors of yarn are carried, almost invisibly along the edge of the shawl, so that you will only end up with a few ends to weave in!

Pattern Release – Secret in my Pocket

Secret - 1 (2)

Secret in my Pocket is a comfortable, drop-shoulder jumper. It is worked seamlessly from the top in one piece, beginning with the neck edge. The shoulder slopes are shaped with the use of the contiguous sleeve method. The front and back are worked separately down to the underarm. The body is formed by joining the front and back at the underarm. Finally, the sleeve stitches are picked up around the armhole edge and shaped using decreases.

The project shown is worked in a size M2 and is worn on a model with a 37”, 94 cm bust, making for approximately 3.5“ of ease.

I hope you enjoy this pattern and look for my other designs on Ravelry. You may contact me on Ravelry should you have any questions or comments. My user name is Adnama.

Thank you so much for supporting an independent designer, Amanda Woeger, http://woegerdesigns.com/

Upslope is a native Colorado shawl design! Both the yarn (Hue Loco) and the name are from Colorado. Upslope is the name of a locally brewed beer that also went very well with the shape and lines on this design.

Upslope is a slightly asymmetrical shawl that is cast on with just one stitch. It is worked flat, back and forth, mostly in garter stitch, making it a good shawl pattern for beginner knitters.

The color elements are worked in using a very simple form of short row. If you’ve never heard of short rows, you should give this shawl a try, to give yourself a taste. If you are afraid of short rows, you won’t even know you are working them. The short rows in this shawl are worked using simple knitting increases (kfb) and decreases (k2tog) – ANYONE can do them!

These instructions are easy to follow and only include basic knitting skills. There is also no need to worry about weaving in multiple ends, both colors of yarn are carried, almost invisibly along the edge of the shawl, so that you will only end up with a few ends to weave in!

Simplicity in Lace

Simplicity - 1 (8)

Simplicity in Lace is an easy yet, elegant top-down raglan pullover that only requires basic knitting skills. If you are a beginner knitter, you shouldn’t shy away from attempting this project. Only two basic lace knitting stitches are required: purl two together (p2tog) and yarn over (yo).

This pullover is cast on at the neck edge and worked in rounds down to the bust. At this point, the sleeves are separated from the body, and worked separately. The knitting continues through the body with optional waist shaping down to the hem. Finally, the sleeves are knitted in rounds from the top down.

Gauge: 20 stitches x 32 rows = 4” (10 cm) in stockinette stitch on size US 5 (3.75 mm) needles; measured on a washed and blocked flat swatch. You are advised to ensure that both your stitch and row gauges are accurate.

Difficulty: Easy (raglan seam increases; knitting in the round; picking up stitches from a finished edge).

Needles: Size US 5 (3.75 mm) for body (or size needed to
get gauge), Size US 3 (3.25 mm) for ribbing

Yarn: Yardage depends on the yarn you decide to use. Estimated Requirements using Tosh Sport from madelinetosh yarns; 270 yards / 247 meters per 100 gram skein:  5 (5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8) skeins or approximately 1240 (1360, 1500, 1600, 1750, 1850, 1990, 2130) yards / 1140 (1240, 1370, 1460, 1690, 1820, 1950) meters

img_5388

Wings is a poncho that is perfect for those chilly fall or spring days when a sweater is a little too warm or too confining. This is a very fashionable poncho that is worked from the top down in one piece.

The knitting is cast on at the top of the cowl neck collar. The collar is then worked in rounds down to the neckline in 2×2 ribbing. Short rows are worked back and forth after the ribbing to help shape the neckline by lowering the center front. Again, working in the round, raglan increases are worked throughout the yoke and down through the body. The braided cables along the raglan seams help to break up the monotonous stockinette stitch and give the poncho its character. Short rows are again used to shape the curved bottom hem of the poncho.

The model shown is a size Medium, worked Trusty from the Plucky Knitter in the colorway “Ps & Qs”.

DIFFICULTY
Intermediate
Required skills: neckline short rows, and body short rows; working button holes; working cables; raglan increases

Size US 5 (3.75 mm) for ribbing
